Roadside Station, Michi-no-eki Kitaura
Kyushu’s No. 1 beach and abundant seafood
Michi-no-eki Kitaura is located on National Route 388, between the Kitaura IC and Sumie IC on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, within Shimoaso Beach Resort Hamayu Village in the lush natural world of Nippo Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Hamayu Village contains accommodation such as cabins and an autocamping site, athletics facilities, and a salt field where you can observe salt-making—it's a leisure facility where all members of the family and friends can stay and enjoy themselves. Shimoaso Beach, right in front of it, is one of Kyushu’s most beautiful beaches, and was the only beach in Kyushu specially selected as one of Japan’s top 100 beaches.
The Bussankan offers plenty of fresh seafood, including oysters, turban shells, pilchards, and sea bream caught in the beautiful waters of the fishing town of Kitaura, as well as processed products such as surimi fish paste and dried fish. You’ll also find Tsuki no Shio salt and nigari-chan (bittern) made in the facility’s salt field and other original products, as well as lots of local specialty products, local seasonal vegetables, and more. You can savor fresh seafood from the area in the Kaisenkan restaurant, with sweeping views of the coast.
