延岡植物園
Nobeoka Botanical Gardens
An oasis full of bright seasonal flowers
These botanical gardens cover around 8.7 hectares, stretching approximately 5 kilometers westward from the center of Nobeoka City.
Diverse flowers and trees give the gardens color—there are flower beds where seasonal flowers bloom and an iris garden, as well as a model shrub garden where different types of azalea bloom. The gardens also have three observation platforms and combined play equipment, and you may see people spreading their bento lunches out on the lawn area for a picnic. This is a place for the city residents to rest, where you can relax as you take a leisurely stroll along the paths that weave their way through the woodland.
The Midori no Sodansho (Green Consultation Center) attached to the gardens holds horticultural classes three to four times a month—if you’re a gardening enthusiast, why not join in?
During the spring Flower Festa, around 50,000 flowers of 20 species are in full bloom in the gardens, and there are all sorts of displays, including hanging baskets. On the day of the Festa’s main event, there’s a variety of planned entertainment such as stage shows, which are well-attended by large numbers of visitors.
