加江田渓谷(宮崎自然休養林)
Kaeda Valley (Miyazaki Recreation Forest)
A green corridor that runs for around 10 kilometers along a clear stream
Mount Boroishi, visible to the south from the streets of Miyazaki City, stands 509 meters tall. A natural laurel forest still stands here, mainly consisting of Castanopsis, Japanese bay trees, and oaks. It's said to have the largest number of species in Japan.
The whole mountain was designated a national Natural Monument in 1969.
The beautiful Kaeda Valley follows the Kaeda River that flows down from the mountains, continuing for approximately eight kilometers.
If you climb Mount Boroishi, you can see strangely shaped rocks with names such as “Tengu Rock” and “Elephant’s Graveyard” along the way. This is a route that can also be climbed by families.
From the peak, the streetscapes of Miyazaki and the scenery of the Pacific Ocean unfold before you.
Walking trails along the Kaeda Valley include a path that is almost flat, where a railroad once ran. You can enjoy being immersed in the forest and birdwatching as you walk this hiking route.
