堀切峠
Horikiri Pass
Offering sweeping views of the wave-like rocks lining the coast and the Pacific Ocean
The wonderful sight of blue seas and blue skies with phoenix trees, evoking an exotic mood. Such scenery, symbolic and typical of Miyazaki City, can be found in Horikiri Pass.
Head south from the center of Miyazaki City on National Route 220, and you’ll find Horikiri Pass where you cross from the mountainous area of Prefectural Route 377 to the coastal area.
Drive the mountain road, and you may find yourself raising your voice in wonder the instant the sight of the phoenix trees and blue sea appears before you.
Look down at the sea from the coast and you’ll see strangely shaped rocks, known as the “devil’s washboard,” visible in the gaps between the waves; you can forget the time as you gaze at the stunning landscape here.
Nearby is Michi no Eki Phoenix, where you can enjoy an ice cream or a local gourmet dish as you look at the scenery, so this forms part of one of the best driving routes in Miyazaki.
