新富町にある座論梅は、国指定天然記念物にも指定されている樹齢600年以上の梅園です。元は1株であったものが横に伸びて新しい株となり、現在の姿となったと言われており、竜が伏せて這うような枝ぶりから臥龍梅とも呼ばれています。
座論梅という名称は「ザロミ」という梅の種類から名付けられたという説や、江戸時代に佐土原、高鍋両藩の間に梅林の所有争いが起こり、両藩士がこの地で出会い座して論議したので座論梅となったものとも伝えられています。
毎年、2月上旬にはイベント「しんとみぶらぶら物見遊山」が開催され、ステージイベントや露店で賑わい、ライトアップなども行われます。
