宮崎市フェニックス自然動物園
Miyazaki City Phoenix Zoo

A zoo is a “living” museum

This zoo was opened in March, 1971 (it has belonged to Miyazaki City since September 2001). It is located on a huge, pine-filled hill on the Hitotsuba Coast in the northeastern part of Miyazaki City, facing the Pacific Ocean.
The zoo is adjacent to the resort facilities of Phoenix Seagaia Resort, and cares for 1,200 creatures of around 100 species on a 140,000-square-meter pine hill with views of the Pacific Ocean.
It holds animal enclosures such as an Asian elephant enclosure, an African garden, a chimpanzee forest, and a children’s animal village.
Miyazaki City Phoenix Zoo hosts large numbers of events, including the “flamingo show” in which around 70 flamingos charm with their grace and the “Elephant walk,” during which visitors can experience getting close to an elephant. The zoo also offers very popular feeding experiences with various animals and encounters with small animals.
The zoo’s grounds hold an amusement park and a lazy river pool (open in the summer), a restaurant and shops, an animal information plaza, a square, and more, so you can stay and have fun all day long.
