Yasuhiro Maruno, Representative of Hinamori Meiboku
Yasuhiro Maruno, the representative of Hinamori Meiboku, expresses his thoughts:
"Through this tour, I hope people can truly experience the essence of the region. Tourism and craftsmanship are closely connected—understanding where materials come from and their background is key to appreciating the art of craftsmanship. By visiting Kirishima and Kobayashi, I want people to immerse themselves in the charm of locally rooted materials and feel a deep sense of inspiration.
I also hope that visitors from overseas will come to this place, experience its beauty firsthand, and become lifelong fans."
Guided by Mr. Maruno, visitors will explore the intricate grain patterns of fine timber, the deep connections between the environment and nature, and the uniquely Japanese aesthetic sensibility.
The Unique Grain Patterns of Fine Timber. Each piece of fine timber showcases its own distinct grain pattern—straight grain, wavy grain, tiger stripe, swirl, and many more. Each one possesses a beauty that is one of a kind.
These grain patterns naturally emerge as the tree grows, making them impossible to artificially reproduce.
Rare grain patterns are difficult to obtain, increasing their value due to their scarcity. The beauty of these grain patterns enhances the individuality and worth of wooden products, making them essential for conveying the charm of nature and local craftsmanship.

The precious woods nurtured in the natural environment of Kirishima, such as magnolia and zelkova, boast beautiful grain patterns and high durability, making them an essential resource for supporting the local cycle.
At Hinamori Meiboku, we bring out the wood’s natural beauty through meticulous lumber processing and enhance its color and luster through long-term natural drying.
With years of expertise, we carefully select high-quality wood, mill and dry it, then craft it into fine products.
Each piece is meticulously finished over a long period, ensuring the utmost quality and craftsmanship.

Sustainable Forestry and Environmental Responsibility
Today, global deforestation is a growing concern, making responsible use of timber crucial for forest conservation and environmental sustainability.
Many of Japan’s forests are planted and require proper maintenance to prevent overcrowding, which can hinder healthy growth. Sustainable forestry practices, including responsible logging, are essential for preserving the ecosystem.
By following the cycle of "planting → growing → harvesting," responsible timber use supports both regional revitalization and forest health. Proper utilization of wood also aids in soil and water conservation, reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and helps combat global warming.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Hinamori Meiboku, efforts extend beyond simply using fine timber—we are dedicated to long-term maintenance, repurposing of waste wood, and sustainable forestry.
These initiatives ensure healthy forests for future generations, fostering a harmonious connection between nature and human life. Our efforts contribute to regional sustainability, environmental preservation, and social responsibility.
Through this tour, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of how timber contributes to local communities and ecosystems, fostering awareness of the importance of sustainable forest management.
Hinamori Meiboku strives to use nature’s gifts without waste, supporting regional development and forest preservation. Responsible timber use is a key step toward building a sustainable future.

Tanokansaa – The Unique Guardian Deity of Ebino
Ebino City is home to a unique deity known as Tanokansaa, the guardian of agriculture. The tradition of worshiping Tanokansaa dates back to the early 18th century, when farmers facing volcanic eruptions and natural disasters began praying for abundant harvests.
Learning about this tradition helps us understand how the deity has been preserved alongside the natural environment and how deeply it is woven into the daily lives of the local people.
Many of Tanokansaa are enshrined in small shrines.
There are around 150 Tanokansaa statues in Ebino City. Why not explore the city and find your favorite one?
