    It is said that the approach to Sano Shrine is the longest in Japan, and cedar is planted along the approach road, which is very beautiful and harsh atmosphere.
    In December you can also appreciate Sano Kagura which is designated as important intangible folk cultural property of the country.

  • Nagata Gorge

    From fresh green to autumn leaves, it is a gorge of about 10 km that you can feel the four seasons of Japan. Also designated as prefectural natural park. There is a legend of the kappa in this region, as well as the objects of the kappa produced by pottery in the town. It is also fun to look for kappa lurking inside the park while refreshing the mind and body while listening to the sound of the river and birds singing.

  • Udo-jingu Shrine

    The contrast of the bright red colored shrine and the blue ocean is a stunning sight to behold at Udo Shrine. The gods enshrined here are the gods for safe delivery during birth, matchmaking for couples, childcare and safety at sea. The "Ochichi-iwa" located behind the main shrine, where Toyotama-hime (daughter of the god of the sea) is said to have stuck both of her breasts to a rock, is a noteworthy location here. Your wish is said to come true if you are able to throw a small clay ball called "Undama" into a pool located on a rock below the cliff in front of the main shrine. Men must throw these balls with their left hand and women with their right hand. Access: Around 12km from Aburatsu station on the JR Nichinan line. Bus available, get off at the Udojingu stop.   • Inohae Valley

    Inohae Valley has around 20 waterfalls, but it's most famous waterfall is the Gojyu-no-Taki (5 layer waterfall). This forest area in Kitago Town has been proven scientifically to have a "significant soothing effect on the body and mind" and is officially regcognized as a Forest Therapy Base. The Inohae Valley Walking Course which runs along the valley is a 3km course one way. On this course you will cross 7 draw bridges and see 3 waterfalls, the Gojyu-no-taki, Hakiai-no-taki and Iwatsubo-no-taki.

  • The expansive grounds of Obi Castle

    For 280 years from 1588 to the early years of the Meiji era, Obi was a prosperous castle town of Itoushi of the Obi Clan. Obi town still maintains the old castle town atmosphere, with many houses of old samurai lords lining the ancient streets. It feels like you have walked through time, back to the era of the samurai. The town area was designated as an Important Preservation District of Historical Buildings by the Japanese government in 1977.
    By car - Take the Miyazaki Highway from the Miyazaki IC to Noda IC. From there, take Route 28 then Route 434. Travel time of around 1 hour
    By train - Take the Nichinan Line from Miyazaki Station to JR Obi station. Travel time of around 1 hour and 5 min.

  • Cape Toi

    The vast ocean and green fields stretching out in front of your eyes, with Misaki Horses slowly chewing on grass. For 300 years, up until the opening of the ranch in 1967, Misaki Horses bred completely naturally without any interference. They are registered as Natural Monuments by the Japanese government as a pure Japanese breed of horse. The white lighthouse at Cape Toi is not only a great place to see Misaki Horses up close, but it is the only light house you can enter in Kyushu. This light house is still operational and continues to be a beacon for passing ships.

  • Kojima Island

    An uninhabited island with a circumference of around 3.5 km, which is home to around 100 Nihonzaru (Japanese monkeys). These monkeys are designated as a natural monument by the Japanese government and are known as "Bunka-zaru (cultured monkeys)" for their unique behaviour of washing potatoes in sea water and swimming in the ocean for pleasure. Enjoy a relaxing time with these moneys living a carefree life while enjoying a comfortable sea breeze.

  • Sun Messe Nichinan

    A theme park in Nichinan City where you can see the coastline.
    Sun Mese Nichinan has a large moai statue of 7 bodies with a height of 5.5 m and a weight of 18 tons. This was made with special permission from the Easter Island Elders' Association.
    There is also a restaurant so you can eat. It is a sightseeing spot that you can spend watching the beautiful scenery of the coastline from sun rising to sinking.
